I had never been to Beyond the Border before, despite recommendations and the fact that it’s only a short drive from Cardiff. So this year I decided to go. It was a magical experience, and you can read all about it in my article on the Wales Arts Review website. Beyond the Border are fundraising for the next festival, which will be in July 2018, so quite a while to wait, but worth it! If you’d like to donate – visit their website.
Here are some photos from the weekend:

The weather was perfect – some strong winds on the Friday night, but generally hot and sunny.

The re-telling of the Mabinogion (the fourth branch) was incredible – a great story of magic set in North Wales.

One of the themes from this year was music and myth from India. The Indian brass band was lively and loud!

The festival is located in an old castle at St Donat’s. The castle is right next to the sea and the grounds are beautiful.

When the final event of the night has ended, you walk back towards the campsite and carpark along a trail lit by fairy lights – back into the real world…
